Welcome to a Bernese Mtn. Dog site that is intended to be an archive for "hard to find" comments related to these dogs. All articles have some kind of value for additional understanding of topics that might improve the mutual relationship of a Berner and its family.

For materials that include my point of view, scroll down to current topics , observations;

For works from other authors that I believe are true and tested, scroll to histories, health;

For fun and miscellanea, click on memorabilia.

For a place to make Berner tumor tissues count, please explore our link for information on the Institute for Genetic Disease Control in Animals (GDC). There is a 3-page form for those of you who want to continue to submit tumors for addition to the growing data in the open family registries that can be used for informed breeding stock selection related to family genotype. This is only for those of you who are comfortable with full disclosure.

Since the recent termination of the funding arrangement between UCD and Berner-Garde, the GDC has corrected the 3-page form to indicate that fees will now be charged directly to the client instead of through Berner-Garde. You will notice that your Veterinarian may still work directly with the UCD Moore/Affolter Lab. if the case is accepted by them for their on-going research on histiocytic-based tumors. In effect, you are paying directly for the diagnosis and registration of all other tumors instead of donating to Berner-Garde and having them pay these costs with a grant.

I would urge everyone to use open registries and follow the developments of changes by accessing the GDC site (below). GDC is currently the only way to develop family gene pictures and use the KinReport.
